The day was perfect. The blue-green ocean waves crashed on the shore. White puffy clouds crossed the aquamarine sky. On the horizon the faint haze of the morning fog was departing.A light breeze blew across the harbor just as Gallant walked into the boatyard. He saw Alaina standing at the end of a pier–her gaze fixed on the sea. She wore a white halter and tan shorts. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, tied with a yellow ribbon. He stood for a minute, content to witness the scene.
He had the feeling that they were starting a new adventure and wondered whether she felt the same, but he was afraid to ask anything that might disturb the delicate balance between them. He had the feeling that they were starting a new adventure and wondered whether she felt the same, but he was afraid to ask anything that might disturb the delicate balance between them.
Alaina’s yawl was at the end of the pier. They climbed aboard and began unfurling the jib sail. He leaned over and pushed the helm over.
The fifteen-meter yawl Haven clawed her way down the bay–away from New Kauai–toward the small deserted islands to the east. As the boat left the bay behind, the seaward breeze picked up. A westerly wind laid her over as she responded to Gallant’s hand at the helm. The blustery summer wind sang in his ears as the boat pitched forward and then rolled as a wave broke against her hull. Haven and the sea synchronized into a thrashing rhythm–pitch–roll–pitch–roll, while in the distance several other small craft ran before the wind. He savored the majesty of the vivid sunlight and writhing seas, but even so, today he was distracted by Alaina’s delicate silhouette as she stood at the mast grasping the rigging while her streaming blonde hair acted as a telltale.
“Alaina,” he yelled over the gusty weather–beckoning her aft. She smiled, and balancing herself against the swaying motion of the deck, she made her way to the cockpit. She sat sideways to him–her knees tucked under her, a gay expression on her face.

About Spirit Warrior by S.E. Smith
Allie Whitewater was used to living between two worlds. She embraced both the Native American heritage of her father and the white heritage of her mother. She was happy with both and didn’t have the identity crisis many of her friends had growing up. Growing up on a large working ranch in Montana, she loved every aspect of the life that her twin had left behind. She had no desire to live town, or worse, a large city. She plans on spending the rest of her life on the ranch her father started, running it and making it even better than ever. All of that changes when she decides to take a little vacation to help out her best friend and sister of the heart, Indiana, return to her new home.
Jacob Tucker enjoys building up the ranch he and his twin brother, Jonathan, had settled. Sure, there were dangers – rustlers, the harsh environment, Indians – but he wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. He is happy with life in the Montana territory. He never thinks there could be something or someone out there that could make him change his mind. At least, not until he travels with his brother to rescue his brother’s new bride, Indiana, when she is kidnapped. His idea of life and the world changes when he leaves his ranch in 1867 to travel to 2013. The world has changed a lot and so have the women – namely one called Allie Whitewater. She has the mouth of a cowpuncher, the body of an angel, and the temper of the Devil himself. Now all he has to do is get her back to his time and hold her so tight she won’t miss her fancy metal wagons and flying birds.
Jacob thinks his plan is foolproof. He just needs to kidnap Allie long enough to make her never want to leave him to return to her world. But things change as tension between the red-skins and the white settlers and the army escalate. History won’t stand still for two souls separated by time. How can he hope to keep Allie safe when the whites see her as a red-skin savage and the Indians don’t know what to think of her?
When the two cultures clash, it is up to Allie to show she is capable of walking in both worlds. She will prove to the whites that she is a force to be reckoned with and she will prove to her ancestors that she is a Spirit Warrior who will fight to the death to protect her hasáŋni, her mate.
Can the past handle a modern woman’s view that the two cultures are really not that different when it comes to love and family or will it destroy the very thing that makes her the perfect partner for a man of the past – her warrior spirit?
In the harsh Northern Waste where human life is worth little, ice trucker Raina Bowen has learned to keep her eyes open and her knife close at hand. All she wants is to stay out of trouble and haul her load of grain to Gladow Station–but trouble finds her in the form of a sexy stranger called Wizard. He has the trucking pass she needs, and she has to drag him out of a brawl with the very people she’s trying to hide from in order to get it. She may have rescued him, but Raina’s not foolish enough to see Wizard as anything close to helpless. He’s hard and honed and full of secrets–secrets that may destroy them both. As they race across the Waste, trying to outrun rival truckers, ice pirates, and the powerful man bent on their destruction, Raina’s forced to admit that trouble’s found her. And this time, there’s nowhere left to run.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Who is E.M. Havens? I’m a lot of things. The word that seems to define me most at the moment is mom. It can be all consuming. Not only am I a mom of three (one of them is a teenager…pity me), but I also home-school (pity me more). I share this awesome responsibility with the love of my life, best friend, and soul-mate husband.
Add to that, the twenty-five chickens, twelve turkeys, ten guineas, nine pigs, three barn cats, two Great Pyrenees guardian dogs, a Chihuahua, a house cat, and a goose, it makes for one crazy, full, and certainly entertaining life.
Somewhere in there I find the time to write. I started out young writing poems, then moved on to songs. I actually have a Bachelor in Music with a secondary in Science because I can’t stand English. Yes, the writer hates English. I like to read the story for the experience of reading the story, not to nitpick each letter and comma. But I digress.
I eventually found blogging and really enjoyed sharing my life that way. When an unfortunate turn of events separated me from my music equipment, I decided to use my overactive imagination, my love of reading, and my new found hobby, prose writing, to release some of my creative energy. I wrote my first novel and loved the experience. Fate War: Alliance is actually the second novel I wrote and the first to be published. Now I’m working on my third and several sequels to Fate War!
So that’s pretty much me, sitting in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma, reading, writing, collecting eggs from the coop, and being a schoolmarm. It’s a pretty great life.

I really like the Steampunk aesthetic and genre. I also like romance but I got tired of the predictable plots. I combined my two favorites and created a not so traditional romance plot in a Steampunk inspired world.
Alien Harvest is unlike and stands alone like my other books, however is different because of the subject matter. It creatively involves the earth being gardened by the
aliens for many centuries, and yet humans had no idea!
The story starts out with a normal family having dinner and a radio emergency blaring that the middle east might attack.
Further along within the story it is known that it was not the middle east at all, but outer space, aliens.
The aliens come to earth to harvest what they have delicately grown.
The reaping is conducted with acid rain to melt the skin and soften the bone. People literally smolder to death and a scent floats through the air attracting the aliens and leading them to their

have to hide to protect themselves.
In Alien Harvest, the military is not on the peoples side.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
In 1995 my sister and I went to a small town close by called Bainbridge Ohio to pick up a puppy for my son Cody, it was his birthday present. It was late at night and after we picked the pup up we headed back home down this old dirt road. We thought that there was a car behind us most of the way down that road. My sister who was driving at the time kept commenting that the car and who ever was driving it behind us, was way too close. I guess I should mention also that there were no other turn off points on this particular road. Almost to the end of the road and to the stop sign the car behind us vanished in to no where.
My sister was flabbergasted because we both knew that there definitely was no other way off that road except the way we were heading and we were the first to reach the stop sign. As we approached the stop sign, we for some reason looked up and in the night sky was several triangular crafts of some kind. We got out of the vehicle and I held on tot he pup.
We both kept watching the objects in the night sky and suddenly they separated and shot off in different directions, then came back together again and just remained perfecting still in the sky.
For several weeks after that night we and our husband’s all saw different unknown things in the skies.
Later I found out that my sister and I were not the only ones that night to have seen the triangular aircraft.
