Some fairy tales begin with love at first sight. This is not one of those tales…
Sophronie Slater had no interest in getting married. Even if she did, the Duke of Waycross would not be her choice. She would, however, do anything for her father. So, in honor of his dying wish to see her legally bound to the contrary, annoyingly handsome Scot who drives her mad, she agrees to a very temporary marriage. She’ll never love him, though. At least, that was the plan…
Evan Gordonstone has no interest in romance. Caring for his relatives and restoring his duchy to profitability is about all he can manage. But if he has any hope of one day realizing his dream of breeding and racing horses, he needs Sophronie. Their arranged marriage will fix all his problems. Assuming he doesn’t fall for his lovely new wife and ruin everything…
Sophronie and Evan are about to find out that opposites can attract in the most unexpected—and sensual—ways. But when all is said and done, can they win each other’s hearts and turn their fake marriage into a real happily ever after?
Scandals, Secrets, and Sweet Romance
This Historical Regency Romance by a USA Today bestselling author proves that enemies can become lovers and opposites do attract. Sparks fly as Evan and Sophronie match wits until they admit their love for each other.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
HOW TO WIN A DUKE'S HEART is the 14th book in my Seductive Scoundrels Series. Both of the main characters made appearances as secondary characters in earlier books in the series, and the time was right for Sophronie and Evan to have their own happy ever after…even if they didn't know it.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
For the Seductive Scoundrels Series, I created the entire cast of characters in advance. I've found it helps me introduce various characters and give hints to my readers about their personalities. I always create a background for each character that includes what motivates them, conflict, and even small things like what food they like or dislike. It helps me to form multi-dimensional, believable heroes and heroines.

He cocked his head, examining her through half-closed eyes from bare toes peeking inelegantly out from beneath her nightgown to her tousled hair hanging about her shoulders. Another ghost of a smile tipped that sculpted mouth.
“That’s an interesting ensemble ye’re wearin’.”
Notching her chin upward an inch, she glared. “I forgot my nightrobe when I packed.”
His lashed dubious raven brows together. “Ye packed yerself?”
“I do a great many things for myself, Your Grace. Although he is wealthy, my father believed I should be self-sufficient.” Lifting a shoulder, she shifted the novel to under her arm. “Why should another do for me what I can do for myself?”
“Ye are provin’ to be a more complex woman than I’d taken ye for, Miss Slater.” The duke pushed away from the shelf and stalked forward until he stood almost toe to toe with her.
After his earlier insult, Sophronie stood her ground. Nevertheless, every instinct and the blood singing through her veins urged her to retreat. Never mind that she had to crane her neck to meet his piercing gaze or that his large form blocked the moonlight. She had never been called a coward in her life, and this boorish brute would not have the benefit of intimidating her.
“Most women are more complex than men give them credit for. I’d think you’d understand that given you live with ten of them. From my observation this morning, they are spirited, intelligent, remarkable women. Women I could admire very much had I time to become acquainted with them. Which I do not, because I intend to ask the doctor tomorrow if Papa is fit for travel.”
The sooner her life returned to normal, the better. The sooner the Duke of Waycross was out of her life, the better too.
“I dinna think yer father is well enough to travel yet, lass.” The duke flicked the collar of her jacket and a tiny thrill shot through her. “Ye’ll have to endure my company for a few more days, Sophronie. If ye’re brave enough to, that is.”
He was so close she could smell his woodsy cologne, and her fingers itched to touch the tantalizing glimpse of chest hair his parted shirt revealed.
As much as Sophronie wanted to argue he was wrong, she suspected he was right. As an idea sprang to life, she grinned and took a step backward. “If you are correct and the doctor says we must delay a trifle longer, then I shall compete in the hunting course and use whatever prize money I win to pay for our stay here.”
Instantly, she knew she’d said the wrong thing.
A thundercloud descended upon the duke’s features, and he swore beneath his breath. The offended stare he fixed upon her actually raised her nape hair.
