Mary Manners lives on a mini farm in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee with her husband Tim and their rescue dog Axel, mischievous cats Colby and Rascal, 6 rambunctious chickens, and 13 fish.
Mary writes small-town family romances laced with faith, hope, and humor. Her books have earned multiple accolades including two Inspirational Reader’s Choice Awards, the Gail Wilson Award of Excellence, the Aspen Gold, the Heart of Excellence, and the National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award.
Mary loves long sunrise runs, Smoky Mountain sunsets, flavored coffee, and chocolate…lots of chocolate.
What inspires you to write?
I have been writing my entire life. My earliest memories are of scribbling stories before I even knew how to print words. I would 'read' them to my family. I write because I just cannot imagine life without it. To me, writing is breathing.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write every day. I use notebooks to outline, and a white board to jot down notes as they pop into my head. When I begin a story, I know where it's going, but am still often surprised as the characters have their way.
How do you develop your characters?
Yes, I have a good idea of how my characters will develop when I begin a story, but often I am surprised. The characters speak tp me, and sometimes they just have to have their way!
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors include Nora Roberts, Stephen King, Jeanette Oke, Karen Kingsbury, Fern Michaels, and Nicholas Sparks.
What genres do you write?: Sweet Contemporary Romance
