Amish Under Fire by Ashley Emma
After Maria Mast’s abusive ex-boyfriend is arrested for sex trafficking, she thinks she can safely return to her Amish community.
But the danger has only just begun.
Someone begins stalking her and her young son Carter, and they want blood and revenge.
When Maria returns home to Unity, Maine, Agent Derek Turner goes with her as her undercover bodyguard, trying to blend in with the other Amish men.
The Amish way of life and their solid faith draws Derek in. He hasn’t even prayed ever since his wife died, but living among the Amish makes him long for a stronger relationship with God.
Maria’s secretive eyes, painful past, and cautious demeanor intrigue him.
As the human trafficking ring begins to target the Amish community, Derek wonders if the distraction of her will cost him his career…and Maria’s life.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My mom let me borrow some of her Amish novels and I became fascinated with the Amish. I called an Amish family and asked to stay with them for research, and they said yes!
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I stayed with Amish families in Unity, Maine. I befriended them and based my characters on them.

“The truth is, we probably won’t see you again after your job here is over. That alone will crush my son.”
His head dropped. “I’m sorry, Maria.” He let out a heavy sigh. “You’re right. You’re totally right. I know that. But I just can’t fight what I feel. I can usually fight off several armed men at once. I fought terrorists in the desert and have fought back shooting assassins in order to protect US senators. But I can’t fight my feelings for you, Maria. And I don’t want to fight them.”
“If things were different…” she murmured, letting him walk closer to her again.
“If things were different, I’d tell you I was falling in love with you,” Derek whispered, standing inches away from her.
All was silent except the sound of his breathing. She held her breath, the effect of his closeness freezing every muscle in her body.
“Forget protocol.” Derek’s eyes dropped to her lips, and his words floated over her softly like a weak summer breeze, shattering all the intentions of walking away that she’d had a moment ago.
She finally breathed in, realization and anticipation pumping through her veins. She shouldn’t let him kiss her. This was going too far. What if the stalker came back? What if Derek couldn’t do his job because he was distracted and someone got hurt?
But when he leaned in to her, all questions fled her brain and she let herself give in. She ran her hand down his toned arm, over the tattoo of his fallen friends, wanting to know the name of everyone on that list and their stories. She wanted to know everything about Derek. All his untold secrets that lurked in his dark eyes, even the terrible things he had endured on his tours of service.
Everything. All his stories and memories. The imperfect, the gruesome, the beautiful.
