About Kate Harriet:
Have you ever thought this after reading a romance book?
• The only tears I want to fall after reading a story are tears of joy.
• I like books that aren’t too predictable and with strong character development.
• The whole novel had a good pace and was professionally written. Really satisfying.
If so, I’m Kate Harriet and I write uplifting, cosy reads for fans of romance- with warm, loveable characters and a heroine you’ll want to root for.
As an author and ghostwriter I have spent years writing for the kind of reader who loves an exciting read, set in picturesque and idyllic settings with just a splash of romance thrown in.
If that’s you then click today to start reading fun, feel-good books and short stories that will leave you smiling from ear to ear.
What inspires you to write?
I have always enjoyed romance books and rom coms, starring a feisty heroine, a determined hero and sparkling dialogue. This has inspired me to write my own romantic novels and meet-cute short stories.
Tell us about your writing process.
As an outliner, I normally create a very bare bones outline in Notepad before I transfer it into Word. This allows me the flexibility of discovering the story as I write, whilst still having a guideline so I never have to face a blank page.
I write daily after watering my flowers in Animal Crossing then I try to write around 2,000 words by end of day.
How do you develop your characters?
My characters drive the story and take my book where they want it to go. As for talking, they tend to talk amongst themselves leaving me entirely out of the conversation. Which is a little bit rude if you ask me.
What authors inspire you?
My favourite author is Jane Austen as her books feature heroines from the meek, the meddlesome to the more spirited and who generally stand their ground against society's rules. Sometimes in spite of overwhelming odds.
How do you keep going in the midst of distractions?
As I am easily distracted, I tend to either play waterfall sounds as I am writing or listen to movie soundtracks to block out noise. I can’t write in cafes either because I’ll end up jotting down people’s random conversations because I find them wonderfully interesting.
What are your hobbies when you need a break from writing?
Playing Animal Crossing, tasting different kinds of tea and trying to grow the perfect Maris Piper.
What romance genres do you write?: romance, sweet romance, contemporary romance, holiday romance, small town romance
Do you write in genres that are not romance related?
I have also written in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.
