It’s 1928 and Estela Euquerio Hopper, an ambitious young woman from an impoverished area of Brazil, has landed a job at the New York Metropolitan Opera, though only to work in the sewing room. Her good fortune is due in part to her unique education and in part to the fact that her father is American. She hopes to make it from the sewing room to the stage, but there are obstacles in her way: her possessive father, her secretive cousin, and the wild temperament of the city itself in its pre-depression heyday.
Not all stories are meant to happily ever after. Some are meant to start with a tragic end dipped in tears, grief, and blood. The girl who once had a happy family, and was loved by everyone is now left alone in misery, with no escape from her past or her sorrows.
Jane, whose life suddenly took a miserable turn on the day of wedding, when everyone she loved died in a tragic car accident, leaving her in deep grief and misery with no hope for happiness in life.
‘No dark clouds can prevent the sun from shining forever’ Can a ray of happiness shine over Jane again or she will have to live her life in grief and misery forever, only time will tell.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Lockdown and loneliness are the best inspiration for me to sit down and let the words in mind form in a story like Jane, Its was a depressing time of everyone, that made me want to write a story full of hope and up and down of life.
About Emem Uko:
Emem Uko, whose first name means "peace" in Annang, a dialect of Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Emem developed a love for storybooks and writing at an early age and blames it on her parents' decision to buy her books instead of candy. During her master's program, Emem began a blog, Z and S, as a hobby and as a way to clear her head from the stress of school life. She started writing her first book without plans to publish it. Thanks to a nosey friend, Emem ended up publishing her first Young Adult (YA) novel. She has published several fictional books ranging from YA to contemporary romance and doesn't have plans to stop anytime soon.
What inspires you to write?
I'm inspired by the everyday people and the happenings in their lives. Sometimes, my observations on a train ride are enough to get inspired and write a juicy story.
