About M.D. Stewart:
I was born and raised in southern West Virginia to parents who are still happily married after fifty-five years. I'm the only girl and middle child, so I grew up using my imagination instead of playing with toy cars with my brothers. I even had an imaginary friend named Carroty, and we would sit outside on the swing and put on variety shows and sing popular songs from the time.
My dad gave me an appreciation for science fiction (proud Trekkie), and my mom gave me the love of reading with her large collection of Harlequin Romance books. I've combined the two and created my own Universe. Romance gives us all an escape to a world where there's always a happy ending. I think we need that.
I always wanted to be a published author, and thanks to my husband, I can say that I am! He fills my days with romance and never-ending support. I dedicate each book to him, because I know he's made it possible to spend my days writing, reading and promoting my books. I want to become successful enough to use my money to pay for my chosen profession.
My husband and I have a cat and a fat beagle named Lady who fights with my laptop for attention. When we aren't canning veggies from our garden, we're taking care of our five chickens.

What inspires you to write?
I grew up reading and loving it. I can still get lost in a good book and not hear a thing going on around me. I want to do that for others; give them an escape from the real world for just a little while.
My first book, Mine, was written because I loved watching the Sci-Fi show "The Legends of Tomorrow" and I wondered what would happen if Mick Rory's character fell in love with a sweet, kind woman. His character is so misunderstood, and I always felt sorry for him. Anyway, the character in my book, Mace Adams is Mick Rory in my world. Hardened shell on the outside, but with the right woman to break through, he begins to grow beyond his self-imposed boundaries.

Tell us about your writing process.
I am a strictly see-what's-in-my-head-and-type-it-out seat of the pants writer. Many times I have no idea what's going to happen until it happens. When I get on a good writing roll, I'll go back and read it later and be surprised by what I've written.
Just recently I've decided that I had so many characters that I needed to keep track of them and bought a five-subject notebook to keep notes on each series. I write the Main Characters of each book in the appropriate series section, give small details about their looks, family and strange quirks each has. I have some crossovers, and I didn't want to have a reader say "Hey, in that other book, she had brown eyes, but now they're blue?". I realized I spelled a character's name in a book twenty-five times ending with "or" and twenty-seven times with "er." I couldn't have that! I notice things like that when I'm reading, and I'm sure others notice too.

How do you develop your characters?
My characters are my family. I know that might seem strange, but they spend so much time taking up headspace that I know them. I do get to watch them grow and evolve as the book grows and different characters influence them. Sometimes I've written a character (namely, General Elio Vargas) that isn't so nice, but then as I write more about them, I learn why or that they're misunderstood.
And like the character I mentioned before, Mace Adams, I was so surprised to see how much he's changed from the beginning of the story to "now." When I go back and read that book, I see just how much he needed love. I'm glad he got that love too!

Who are your favorite authors?
Wow, so many authors have become my favorites. I have every single book by Laurann Dohner. I stumbled onto Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" by accident, and she was the first author I ever communicated with by email back in the 90s (I have printouts of our emails, I'm such a geek). That was back when her latest release was "Drums of Autumn." My first eBook purchase was J.R. Rain's "Moon Dance." I ate up his work as fast as he could put it out. Of course J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series too! Mr. Rain and Ms. Rowling are the reason I used my initials on my books. I’ve recently started reading Lucy Lennox and Rosalind Abel’s works as well.
