What inspires you to write?
After 19 years of working on high-class interior finishings on projects in 14 countries, I have seen and experienced many things. It was what gave me the idea to write Follow in the Tigerman's Footsteps that covered the main part of my working life. I followed this up with An Expat's Experience of Living in Turkey, where I have lived for the past thirty years. This led me to then write adventure, thrillers and romantic stories/novels. I enjoy writing and would like to think that readers also enjoy reading my books.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a seat of the pants writer. I think up an idea and start to write. Characters/names come to my mind and off I go. I usually write every day, but never to a specified word count. Although I have a study, I write on my laptop perched on my lap in the television room. Strange though it might seem, I find this far more comfortable than sitting in my office chair and the computer on my desk. As I love writing and get great pleasure from doing so, I am always in the mood to write.
How do you develop your characters?
When I start to write a new story, I don't know-how the characters will develop. I guess in a way my characters talk to me so I can get a feeling of how I should portray them.
What authors inspire you?
Tom Clancy, Eric van Lustbader,, Lee Child, Clive Cussler, Robert Ludlum
How do you keep going in the midst of distractions?
When I write, my mind is focused on that. I don't allow myself to get distracted and switch off when I do, then switch back on again.
What are your hobbies when you need a break from writing?
I like to read and when possible go out for a walk with my wife.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Several years ago, I saw an article about a memorial sculpture being installed in County Cork that celebrated the aid the Choctaw Tribe in America gave to the Irish during the Great Potato Famine. My mother has a smidgen of native blood, so the article caught my eye.
As I read it, I realized that my father’s family—coming from County Clare as they did—had to have lived through that famine. I did some research and learned that it was a totally avoidable disaster, which cut Ireland’s population by 25% while food was being exported to England at astronomical rates.
I felt compelled to tell the stories of the survivors—the ones who somehow held body and soul together and found a way to prosper.
