About Dana Pratola:
I was born and raised in New Jersey, but hope not to die here. I've been married for decades, have three grown children, and a Maltese. My relationship with Jesus Christ is the MOST important thing in my life, and yes, I do write secular romance as well as inspirational, but my Christian worldview is often present in some of my characters.
Other than that, I love writing more than anything, followed by dogs and horses, and dream of having my own cabin/bungalow to write in ALONE for weeks at a time.
What inspires you to write?
Practically anything. I get a lot of ideas from songs, and inspiration usually hits when I'm on my treadmill, or in the shower, so I jot notes on my phone.
Tell us about your writing process.
I'm a combo writer. Pants-liner? Out-pantser? I do have a whiteboard, which I stick with basic character descriptions. I always forget eye color, then I glance over, and there it is. I usually have a general idea of the character, starting with physical description, then I imagine what their identifying "flaw" is and how that will work off the other main character and whatever their "flaw" is. They each have a goal and if that flaw can cause conflict, excellent! (*I "quoted" flaw because everyone has more than one, but I mean the one I'm going to focus on)
How do you develop your characters?
If my characters "spoke" to me I'd probably be in therapy and wouldn't have time to write. That being said, I don't have a definite path they must follow. Sometimes we meander off into the grass and it can be exciting there, too.
What authors inspire you?
Hmm. That's a good question. I like Stephanie Laurens, though I don't write historical romance. And Julia Quinn. Also, Chana Keefer. Her heart is pure and she's so open and forthcoming.
How do you keep going in the midst of distractions?

What are your hobbies when you need a break from writing?
I have no hobbies, lol. I get on horseback whenever I can, but not often enough to be considered a hobby π
What romance genres do you write?: Speculative, urban fantasy, suspense, rom-com, paranormal inspirational, NA, YA
Do you write in genres that are not romance related?
I write different types of stories — mystery, suspense, paranormal, fantasy — but they all have a definite vein of romance.
